Gresham turned a commercial building fire disaster to an advantage, with a rebuilding scheme that added 60% more building volume to the same site at one-third less cost than duplicating the original.

EVMS Gross Anatomy Lab Improvements

completed improvements to the existing 5,769-SF gross anatomy lab and surrounding areas on the second floor of Lewis Hall. Interior work consisted of the complete demolition of existing lab space, including abatement of hazardous materials. After the extensive demolition was completed and the space was certified to be free from all hazardous materials, the new work consisted of new epoxy flooring, ceilings, walls, paint, millwork, plumbing, and electrical. A new HVAC system was installed in the mechanical room of Jones Institute; it included new hydronic piping and pumps, which were run from the basement up to the roof of Lewis Hall.

The majority of the renovation work was done during normal business hours, so coordination between students and instructors was extremely important. HVAC and electrical upgrades were performed after hours to lessen the impact on students and staff.
