Gresham turned a commercial building fire disaster to an advantage, with a rebuilding scheme that added 60% more building volume to the same site at one-third less cost than duplicating the original.

Plaza Annex Office Building Renovation & Addition

completed extensive renovations and an addition to the existing Virginia Beach Public Schools Plaza Annex (formerly known as Plaza Elementary School). The existing cafetorium was renovated into a Professional Development Center (PDC) for Virginia Beach Public Schools (VBPS) teaching and administrative staff. A two-story, 50,520 SF addition was built to provide administrative offices for multiple VBPS departments.

Exterior walls are masonry with a brick veneer, and the interior structure consists of steel columns, beams, bar joists, decking, and concrete. Building features for the addition include two elevators, decorative stairs in the lobby area (Terrazzo treads and risers), large restrooms, operable partitions, a wet pip fire sprinkler system, geothermal system, water source heat pump systems, and LED lighting. Specialty systems include an intercom system, access control and intrusion detection systems, and CCTV.

Site work included the development of 7.6 acres, new parking lots, storm drainage, landscaping, and stormwater BMP.
