Gresham turned a commercial building fire disaster to an advantage, with a rebuilding scheme that added 60% more building volume to the same site at one-third less cost than duplicating the original.

Third Patrol Precinct

E. T. GRESHAM COMPANY began construction of the 42,269 square foot Norfolk Third Police Precinct Facility striving for United States Green Building Council LEED® Silver certification but in the end was able to meet the requirements for LEED® Gold Certification. This project achieved this goal in a variety of ways including incorporating 3.2 acres of impervious area/pavers on the 6.5 acre site, using multiple geothermal wells to provide energy efficient mechanical systems and the use of windows to provide natural lighting into the building interiors, which has proven to affect mood and create a better working condition, low VOC paints, using local materials, and native plants to the area.

This facility is like no other in the Hampton Roads; it is part police station, community center, FEMA situation bunker, fitness center, conference & management suite, offices for Homeland Security and Harbor Patrol, as well as a repair shop for vehicle, bike, and boat.
